In Memoriam – Juliette Y. N. Lum

Hawaii recently loss an outstanding member of the education community, who made lasting contributions to the teaching profession. Juliette. Y. N. Lum passed  away on December 8, 2024, but her contributions continue to inspire both  teachers and students.

Ms. Lum joined HEA in 1964 and served on the HEA  board of directors from 1974 to 1978. She was HEA President from 1974 to  1976, and a member of HEA’s Executive Committee from 1977 to 1978. She  held a number of leadership roles within HEA, and served on the Educational
Programs Committee three different times, the last of which was from 1995 to  2010.

The McKinley High School graduate taught at public schools, including  kindergarten at Waialae Elementary School. She also served as President of
the Oahu Classroom Teachers Organization, the Oahu Education Association, and the Honolulu Chapter of the  Hawaii State Teachers Association.
