Scholarships for High School and College Students

 

 

Thanks to the generosity of donors, foundations, and other supporters, HEA can provide scholarships for undergraduates who are pursuing teaching as a career. The following scholarships are available to college students majoring in education.

High School Students
This scholarship is for students who plan to attend any two- or four year state or nationally accredited institution of higher  learning during the 2026-27 academic school year. Preference will be given to those interested in pre-K-12.

Amount: $2,000 (two available)

Eligibility Requirements: For the academic school year 2025-26, you must be a high school senior who is an HEA member, child of an HEA member, and/or grandchild or legally adopted grandchild of an HEA member.

College Students
HEA will award two scholarships to continuing, full-time college students pursuing a career in education. Preference will be given to those interested in pursuing pre-K-12 teaching, and you plan to attend a two- or four-year state or nationally accredited institution of higher learning during the 2026-27 academic school year.

Amount: $1,000 (two available)

Eligibility requirements: You must be an undergraduate or a postgraduate college student pursuing a career in education for  the academic school year 2025-26. In addition, you must be an HEA member, child of an HEA member, and/or grandchild or legally adopted grandchild of a HEA member.

Student Teachers
This scholarship was established by HEA and the family of Helen MacKay to minimize the need for employment during the student teaching semester.

Amount: $2,000 (two available)

Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must intend to teach in the Hawaii Department of Education and be enrolled in a State Approved Teacher Education (SATE) Program as a full-time undergraduate or be a post baccalaureate candidate in a nationally accredited institution of higher learning or in a Hawaii SATE alternative licensure program in the 2025-26 academic school year. HEA membership is required prior to applying.

HEA Richard Keakahiwa/Wilhelmina Luna Scholarship
This is a new scholarship and the first year that it is being offered to education majors intending to teach in a Hawaii public  school at the elementary or secondary level.

Amount: $2,000 (one available)

Eligibility requirements: The scholarship is awarded to a full-time undergraduate student currently attending an accredited institution of higher learning. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.2 or higher.

HEA Carol H. Yoneshige Scholarship in Memory of Faith C. Ai
The HEA Carol H. Yoneshige Scholarship was recently established to provide scholarships for full-time college undergraduate
students majoring in education.

Amount: $3,000 (one available)

Eligibility requirements: Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.5 or better, be in their second or third year at an accredited university, and intend to teach in a Hawaii public school at the elementary or secondary level.
