We support professional development and students pursuing education degrees.

We are educators striving to improve education in Hawaii.

Since 1921, the Hawaii Education Association (HEA) has brought together teachers, professors, school administrators and supporters to spark improvements in education for all educators and students statewide.

Today, we are devoted to stimulating innovation in education and providing professional development so that Hawaii’s teachers can be the best that they can be. We promote the joy and passion of the teaching profession, and we inspire and support those who desire to achieve excellence in the career of education.

Free Online PD Course for Teachers

COURSE INFO

This summer HPU will be offering free online economics PD course for teachers, educational officers, and educational assistants. The course is delivered in collaboration with the Hawai’i Council on Economic Education and will explain the causes of economic phenomena such as inflation, Hawaii’s high housing costs, and provide guidance for educators of all subjects and grade levels to bring age-appropriate economics content into their classrooms. The course is assessed through quizzes, a lesson plan, and a final exam; and there is no portfolio.

This free course also provides three (3) graduate credits which are fully eligible to count towards HIDOE salary reclassification. Furthermore, all course participants will receive a 100% scholarship from HPU, and there are no textbooks or other class materials required to purchase. The course will run eight weeks over the DOE summer break on Tuesdays, June 3rd-July 22nd 2025 at 5:15-8:10pm, but can also be taken asynchronously.

Please see course flyer for further details as well as our enrollment form (both linked below). If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Gerard Dericks, gdericks@hpu.edu.
